You must present and quote your Airpoints number when you book a Qualifying Flight; make a Qualifying Purchase; or apply for a Direct Earn Financial Product, so that we can automatically accrue the Airpoints Dollars and Status Points to your Account.
You must not allow any other person to use your Airpoints number to try to earn Airpoints Dollars or Status Points on your Account and you must not use any other person's Airpoints number to earn Airpoints Dollars or Status Points on their Account, to do so would be engaging in fraud.
If you wish to make a claim for missing Airpoints Dollars or Status Points, you must submit a valid claim to us within 6 months of the Qualifying Flight or Qualifying Purchase (see paragraph 11 for requirements).
You are responsible for making your own enquiries in relation to any Airpoints Member Benefit that is provided by a third party, which you may wish to redeem.

3. Privacy statement
For information about Air New Zealand's privacy practices, including how you can view, correct or delete your personal information please see our Privacy Statement.
4. Email communications
You acknowledge and agree that by providing us with your email address we may send you commercial electronic messages including but not limited to Airpoints Programme communications, Shairpoints communications, Special Offers, and communications relating to online bookings made or commenced on our websites (including bookings that were not completed). You also consent to us and our select Airpoints Partners sending you Partner communications.

5. Application for Airpoints Membership
Membership of the Airpoints Programme is personal to the Airpoints Member and is not transferable to any other person.
We reserve the right to accept or decline any application for Airpoints Membership. If your application is declined, we will inform you in writing. If we accept your application, we may issue you with an Airpoints Card with your name and Airpoints number on it or we will advise you by email.
Your Airpoints Membership will remain current until such time as it is terminated by either you or Air NZ pursuant to the termination provisions in paragraph 29.
6. Deceased Airpoints Member account closure
Following the date that we become aware of the death of an Airpoints Member, the deceased Member's Airpoints Account, Shairpoints Account, Status Points, and all other Airpoints Member Benefits will be cancelled and become invalid. If we receive a written request by the executor of an Airpoints Member's estate to transfer the deceased Airpoints Member's current Airpoints Dollars balance (but not their Status Points) to the Airpoints accounts of the beneficiaries of the Airpoints Member's estate, we will do so if we are satisfied that the request is valid and lawful and if the request is made within 2 years of the death of the Airpoints Member.
7. Airpoints Card
Each Airpoints Card is only valid for use by the person named on the Airpoints Card and must not be used by any other person.
Airpoints Cards remain the property of Air NZ.
If your Airpoints Membership is terminated, you may no longer use your Airpoints Card and you must either destroy it or return it to Air NZ if requested.
You must notify Air NZ promptly if your Airpoints Card is lost or stolen.
You can use the digital fast join process to join the Airpoints Programme when shopping with an Airpoints Partner. You must activate your Account within 24 hours of your purchase to claim the Airpoints Dollars earned.
8. Australian residents
If you are resident in Australia, you are an "Australian Member" for the purposes of the Airpoints Programme.
If you are an Australian Member, any Airpoints Dollars that you earn will be converted by us at the time of redemption using a conversion rate that we determine, acting reasonably and having regard to the New Zealand and Australian dollar exchange rates.
9. Airpoints Member benefits
Airpoints Members are able to earn Airpoints Dollars and Status Points to redeem Rewards and enjoy a range of Airpoints Member benefits.
Airpoints Member benefits include:
- Rewards that can be redeemed using Airpoints Dollars; and
- Tier Status Benefits that can be enjoyed by Airpoints Members who have earned sufficient Status Points to qualify or requalify for Elite, Gold or Silver Tier Status;
- Ability to join a Shairpoints Account;
Various other benefits associated with your participation in the Airpoints Programme, as set out in these Terms.
We will change and update the Airpoints Member benefits from time to time. Visit the Airpoints section of our website for information about our current Airpoints Member benefits.
10. Earning Airpoints Dollars and Status Points
Airpoints Members may earn Airpoints Dollars and Status Points on Qualifying Flights, Qualifying Purchases and through Direct Earn Financial Products.
In order to earn Airpoints Dollars and Status Points automatically, you must quote your Airpoints number (and if requested present your Airpoints Card) at the time of making a booking for a Qualifying Flight, making a Qualifying Purchase or at the time of applying for a Direct Earn Financial Product.
You cannot earn Airpoints Dollars or Status Points on Rewards you have redeemed using Airpoints Dollars. You cannot transfer your Airpoints Dollars or Status Points to another airline's frequent flyer programme.
In the event that Airpoints Dollars and or Status Points have been accrued to your Account for travel that you also used to gain frequent flyer or loyalty benefits under another Airline's loyalty or frequent flyer programme, we will remove the relevant Airpoints Dollars and Status Points from your Account.
11. Claiming missing Airpoints Dollars and Status Points
When you earn Airpoints Dollars and Status Points on Qualifying Flights, Qualifying Purchases, and through Direct Earn Financial Products, your Airpoints Dollars and Status Points should appear on the "My Balance" page of your online Air NZ Account within three months of the Qualifying Flight or Qualifying Purchase being made or within three months of the Airpoints Dollars being earned through Direct Earn Financial Products.
You may make a claim for missing Airpoints Dollars or Status Points:
- for Qualifying Flights taken and Qualifying Purchases made after you joined the Airpoints Programme; and
- for Qualifying Flights taken no more than 30 days before your date of joining the Airpoints Programme.
Your claim must be received by Air NZ within 6 months of the following:
- the date of the Qualifying Flight was taken;
- the date the Qualifying Purchase was made; or
- the check-in date if the Qualifying Purchase was for hotel or other accommodation; or
- the first day of the car rental reservation if the Qualifying Purchase was a car rental
You may submit your claim for missing Airpoints Dollars or Status Points online, through the "Claim missing Airpoints" function of your online Air NZ Account. Alternatively, you may submit your claim to the Air NZ Contact Centre.
You must provide the following evidence as part of your claim:
For Qualifying Flights and seating product purchases - airline, ticket number, departure date, departure airport, arrival airport flight number, booking class, seat number;
For Qualifying Purchases - invoice and receipt (charge card receipts or vouchers are not accepted, and confirmation or reservation statements on their own are not accepted).
If you wish to make a claim for missing Airpoints Dollars or Status Points earned through a Direct Earn Financial Product, submit your claim to your Direct Earn Financial Product provider within 6 months of the date you earned the missing Airpoints Dollars or Status Points, or such sooner time as is required by your Direct Earn Financial Product terms and conditions.
In the case of Status Points earned on a Qualifying Flight as a benefit of your Direct Earn Financial Product, you must still be a Nominated Earner of the Direct Earn Financial Product the claim is for (and the Direct Earn Financial Product account must be open), at the time that a claim is made for missing Status Points to be eligible for the missing Status Points.
12. Qualifying flights
To earn Airpoints Dollars and Status Points for travel on a Qualifying Flight, you must be the person named on the Ticket and you must have flown on the Flight. In the case of Status Points earned on a Qualifying Flight as a benefit of your Direct Earn Financial Product, you must be the Nominated Earner of the Direct Earn Financial Product at the time you fly on the Qualifying Flight to be eligible to earn the Status Points.
The amount of Airpoints Dollars and Status Points that can be earned from travel on Qualifying Flights will vary depending on whether the Flight is an Air NZ Operated Flight or a Partner Airline Flight, the Airpoints Dollars and Status Points earning rates for the relevant Partner Airline, your booking class, the product type purchased, and the date of travel. If you hold a Direct Earn Financial Product, the terms and conditions applicable to your Direct Earn Financial Product may also affect the number of Status Points that you are eligible to earn on Qualifying Flights.
We may vary the Airpoints Dollars and Status Points earning rates from time to time, acting reasonably.
To estimate the number of Airpoints Dollar and Status Points you could earn on a Qualifying Flight, refer to the Airpoints Look Up Table at www.airnzpoints.co.nz.
12.1. Air New Zealand operated flights
Travel booked in booking classes N, X, I and R on Air NZ Operated Flights do not earn Airpoints Dollars or Status Points. Travel booked in booking class F does not earn Airpoints Dollars but does earn Status Points.
Infant Tickets do not earn Airpoints Dollars or Status Points.
Travel booked and paid for using Airpoints Dollars or another airline's frequent flyer points or loyalty programme points do not earn Airpoints Dollars or Status Points.
Airpoints Dollars and Status Points will be calculated per sector of your booking and will reflect the Booking Class you travel in for each Sector in the booking.
12.2. Partner Airline flights
You can earn Airpoints Dollars and Status Points on Partner Airline Flights provided the travel is booked in a booking class that the Partner Airline has determined is eligible to earn Airpoints Dollars and Status Points. See the Airpoints Look Up Table to estimate the Airpoints Dollars and Status Points you could earn on Partner Airline Flights. See Earning on flights for further information, and Star Alliance for earning on Alliance flights.
Status Points can be earned on some Partner Airline Flights but not all. See our Status Points information on our website for up to date information on which Partner Airline Flights can earn Status Points.
Booking class eligibility, and Airpoints Dollars and Status Points earning rates may be changed from time to time without prior notice. However we will always honour the Airpoints Dollars earning rates published as at the date of travel on a Qualifying Flight.
13. Qualifying purchases
You may earn Airpoints Dollars by making Qualifying Purchases with Air NZ and Participating Retailers.
We will vary the range and type of Qualifying Purchases and Participating Retailers from time to time.
Where a Qualifying Purchase includes a booking or receipt addressed to a named individual, you must be the person named in the booking or receipt. If the Qualifying Purchase is for car hire, you must have actually hired the car yourself.
The amount of Airpoints Dollars you can earn on Qualifying Purchases will vary depending on the earning rates applicable to the relevant Participating Retailer, the type of purchase made, the purchase price and the date of the purchase. Check to earn rate details with the relevant Participating Retailer.
Not all purchases made with a Participating Retailer will be Qualifying Purchases. Participating Retailers may specify which purchases will be Qualifying Purchases and eligible for Airpoints Dollars. Please check with the Participating Retailer before you make your purchase to confirm if the purchase is a Qualifying Purchase and will earn you Airpoints Dollars.
All Qualifying Purchases made with a Participating Retailer will be subject to the Participating Retailer's terms and conditions.
We will update your Airpoints balance with the Airpoints Dollars you have earned through Qualifying Purchases only after the relevant Participating Retailer has informed us of the Qualifying Purchase. This may be up to 12 weeks from the date of your Qualifying Purchase.
14. Airpoints Dollars expiry
15. Spending Airpoints Dollars
You may use your Airpoints Dollars to redeem Rewards.
We will change and update the range of Rewards available from time to time. Visit our website for a list of current Rewards.
The following requirements apply to all Rewards:
- Flight Rewards cannot be redeemed more than 12 months in advance. Some non-Flight Rewards may be redeemed more than 12 months in advance if the relevant Airpoints Partner (who will provide the Reward), permits redemption more than 12 months in advance.
- You must comply with all terms and conditions relating to the Rewards you redeem.
- If your Reward is being provided by a third party, you must comply with the third party's terms and conditions relating to the Reward, including any advance booking requirements, any restrictions, payment terms, fee requirements and cancellation terms.
- If you make a Reward redemption but then wish to change or cancel your order, we may charge you a reasonable change fee and service fee associated with the change or cancellation request.
- Some Rewards may not be able to be changed or cancelled. See relevant terms and conditions for the Reward to determine if you are able to change or cancel the Reward.
- We do not guarantee that any of the Rewards will be available at any time and we reserve the right to withdraw, cancel, change or suspend any of the Rewards we offer or advertise. We are not liable for any loss, expense, or damage any Member suffers as a result of such withdrawal, cancellation, suspension or change.
16. Flight rewards
You may use your Airpoints Dollars to redeem Flight Rewards. These include travel on most Air NZ Operated Flights and Partner Airline Flights, subject to availability.
We will determine the redemption rate by which you can use your Airpoints Dollars to redeem Flight Rewards and we may change this rate from time to time, acting reasonably. This rate will change depending on a number of factors, including but not limited to whether your Flight is an Air NZ Operated Flight or a Partner Airline Flight, the booking class, time of travel, load factors, and whether it is a domestic or international Journey.
Flight Rewards are not available for travel industry rebated Tickets or group Tickets.
In the event of a flight delay, we reserve the right to postpone your Reward Travel dates at our sole discretion, acting reasonably, if we provide you with at least 24 hours' notice. If we do this we will make alternative Reward Travel arrangements for you.
If your Reward Travel involves travel on a Partner Airline, you must comply with that airline's terms and conditions, applicable fare rules and conditions of carriage. Air NZ is not responsible for your travel on Partner Airlines and the provision of Flight Rewards to you by Partner Airlines. Partner Airline Flights must be requested at least 3 business days prior to the day of departure.
Flight Reward Tickets are subject to applicable Fare Rules and Conditions of Carriage. See the Fare Rules for your Ticket to determine if you are entitled to change or cancel your Ticket and to determine the applicable change fees, cancellation fees, fare upgrade costs and service fees. Any such fees must be paid in Cash. Some Flight Reward Tickets may not permit changes or cancellations, check the Fare Rules before booking.
If your Flight Reward Ticket is for a Journey that commences in New Zealand and is purely a domestic Journey (subject to a domestic Ticket with no international sectors) you may use your Airpoints Dollars to pay the taxes and surcharges included in your fare. If your Journey does not commence in New Zealand and or includes international sectors, you cannot use your Airpoints Dollars to pay any taxes, levies or surcharges associated with your Flight booking.
The amount of Airpoints Dollars needed to redeem a Flight Reward Ticket with a Partner Airline may differ from the Cash price offered by Partner Airlines for the purchase of similar products or services, outside of the Airpoints Programme.
16.1. Discounted Long haul Redemption Fares
Elite, Gold, Nominated Gold, Silver Airpoints Members and Koru Members may use their Airpoints Dollars to redeem Discounted Long Haul Redemption Fare in Business Premier Class on Air NZ Operated Flights.
Discounted Long Haul Redemption Fares are subject to strictly limited availability and may only be booked in limited booking classes. Discounted Long Haul Redemption Fares are not available on all routes or all Flights.
16.2. Airpoints Upgrades
As an Airpoints Member you may choose to use your Airpoints Dollars to redeem an Airpoints Upgrade when travelling on an Air NZ Operated Flight with an Air NZ Ticket. You may also use your Airpoints Dollars to redeem a Star Alliance Upgrade when travelling on a Star Alliance Partner Airline in limited Star Alliance booking classes and subject to relevant Star Alliance partner booking terms.
We will change the type of Airpoints Upgrades that are available to Airpoints Members from time to time. Visit our website for a list of current Airpoints Upgrade options.
To make an Airpoints Upgrade request, you must have a confirmed Flight booking. Each Airpoints Upgrade request is for a single one way Sector, not for a whole Journey.
When considering your Airpoints Upgrade request, we will take into account a number of factors including: seat availability, aircraft capacity control and catering. Your Airpoints Upgrade request is not guaranteed. Sometimes, due to operational requirements, we may need to reverse an Airpoints Upgrade, even if it has previously been confirmed. If we do not confirm an Airpoints Upgrade request, or need to reverse a confirmed Airpoints Upgrade, we will refund the applicable Airpoints Dollars to your Account, or credit the Recognition Upgrade back to your Account (unless expired), as applicable.
Airpoints Upgrades are not available on all Air NZ operated and Star Alliance operated Flights. For example, Airpoints Upgrades cannot be requested for travel industry fares, prize and promotional Tickets, grabaseat™ greenlight fares and Flights booked in certain discounted or low cost booking classes, including F class.
If you use an Airpoints Upgrade to upgrade your Service Class on a Journey departing from London, you will be required to pay in Cash the additional Air Passenger Duty that will apply to your Journey.
You will earn Airpoints Dollars and Status Points on your Qualifying Flight according to the earn rate of the original fare purchased, prior to the Airpoints Upgrade being requested.
If your Airpoints Upgrade request is confirmed by Air NZ, and you subsequently decide to cancel the Airpoints Upgrade but still wish to travel on the same Flight, your request will be subject to the original Ticketed Booking Class being available. Fees and fare conditions of the new booking will apply.
If you hold Elite, Gold or Silver Tier Status, you will receive certain Recognition Upgrades when you qualify or re-qualify for your Tier Status for use on Air NZ Operated Flights. Recognition Upgrades are not available if you hold Nominated Gold or Nominated Silver Tier Status. Recognition Upgrades may be requested within 12 months of the day you become eligible or re-eligible for your Elite, Gold or Silver Tier Status. If you move up a Tier Status level at any time during your Membership Year, any unused Recognition Upgrades will be expired from your Account and will be replaced with new Recognition Upgrades applicable to your new Tier Status. If you make a travel booking with a Recognition Upgrade and later wish to change your travel arrangements, your Recognition Upgrade will be deemed to have expired if (a) at the date of changing your travel arrangements, you no longer hold the applicable Tier Status that enabled you to earn the Recognition Upgrade; or (b) if the date of travel is in a new Membership Year.
You may not combine Recognition Upgrades, Elite Airpoints Dollar Upgrade or a OneUp Upgrade to move multiple cabin classes for any single sector of your flight. The exception is, you can combine two long-haul Recognition Upgrades to request an upgrade from Economy to Business Premier on one sector. These must be applied at the same time from the same member's account and from the same membership year.
If you are travelling with children aged between 2 and 12 years old, any Airpoints Upgrade request you make must also include a corresponding Airpoints Upgrade request for the children travelling with you.
16.3 Other Upgrades
If you purchase a OneUp Upgrade, or an Airport Upgrade at check-in, you will earn Airpoints Dollars and Status Points on your Qualifying Flight according to the earn rate of the original fare purchased, prior to the OneUp or Airport Upgrade being purchased.
17. Non-Flight Rewards
You may use your Airpoints Dollars to redeem a range of Non-Flight Rewards.
A list of current Non-Flight Rewards is available at "Spending Airpoints Dollars™" page.
The redemption rates offered through the Airpoints Programme for Non-Flight Rewards may differ from the Cash prices offered by Airpoints Partners for the purchase of similar products or services, outside of the Airpoints Programme. There is no relationship between the Cash price offered by a Non-Airline Partner and the redemption rates offered through the Airpoints Programme for Non-Flight Rewards (e.g. car rentals hire).
17.1. Car Rental Rewards
You may use your Airpoints Dollars to redeem certain Car Rental Rewards that we may offer from time to time, subject to booking restrictions and availability.
Airpoints Dollars may not be earned on staff, discount, free, net wholesale, certain corporate or travel industry rates.
Requests made via the Air NZ Contact Centre for Car Rental Rewards must be made at least one business day prior to the date of the car hire pick up.
18. Gifting Rewards to members of your household
You may register any person in your Household as a "Giftee" on your Gifting Register, provided that the person resides in the same Household as you and has the same residential address.
You can register a person as a "Giftee" through the "Gifting Register" function, after you have signed in to your online Air NZ Account. Alternatively, you may do so by contacting the Air NZ Contact Centre.
We will charge a fee for adding a person as a Giftee on your Gifting Register if they are not an Airpoints Member. When you register a Giftee, you must declare if the Giftee resides in the same Household as you.
We reserve the right to ask you to provide us with written evidence to confirm that a Giftee resides in the same Household as you. An example of satisfactory written evidence is a utilities bill issued within the last 3 months. You must tell us promptly if any Giftee on your Gifting Register stops residing in the same Household as you.
You may remove a Giftee from your Gifting Register at any time.
You may gift Rewards to a Giftee on your Gifting Register, provided that you redeem and gift the whole of the Reward to the Giftee. It is not possible to redeem and gift part of a Reward.
Except as specified in paragraph 23, Giftees and other Airpoints Members cannot make any top-ups or transfers of Cash or Airpoints Dollars to help cover any shortfall if you have insufficient Airpoints Dollars to redeem and gift the whole of a Reward.
We will monitor your Gifting Register to ensure that you are using your Gifting Register in compliance with these Terms.
18.1. Gifting Rewards for Gold and Elite Members
Airpoints Members with Gold or Nominated Gold Tier Status may nominate up to 2 people as their Giftees, who do not need to reside in the same Household as the Airpoints Member.
Airpoints Members with Gold or Nominated Gold Tier Status may gift Rewards to their Giftees.
Airpoints Members with Elite Tier Status may nominate up to 4 people as their Giftee, who do not need to live in the same Household as the Airpoints Member.
Airpoints Members with Elite Tier Status may gift Rewards, Recognition Upgrades and Elite Airpoints Dollar Upgrades to their Giftees.
Please refer to the Air NZ website for details and restrictions on gifting Rewards by Gold and Elite Members.
19. Status Points
Airpoints Members earn Status Points on certain Qualifying Flights and on some Direct Earn Financial Products. Airpoints Members may not share or transfer their Status Points to any other person.
We may vary the Status Points earning rates from time to time, acting reasonably.
Status Points are used to determine if an Airpoints Member qualifies for Elite, Gold or Silver Tier Status. You will qualify for Elite, Gold or Silver Tier Status if you meet our Tier Status requirements published on our website. We may vary the requirements for achieving Tier Status from time to time, acting reasonably. If we do so we will publish the new requirements on our website and we will also give you two months advance notice of any material changes to these requirements.
Airpoints Members with Elite, Gold or Silver Tier Status are entitled to certain Frequent Flyer Benefits, which we may vary from time to time. Visit our website for a list of current Frequent Flyer Benefits.
Your Elite, Gold or Silver Tier Status will be valid for a 12 month period starting from the date your Tier Status becomes effective. However if during the 12 month period, you qualify for a higher Tier Status, we will promptly change your Tier Status to the higher Tier Status. Your new higher Tier Status will then be valid for 12 months. The lower Tier Status Benefits will expire immediately from your Account and the higher Tier Status Benefits applied.
We will review your eligibility for qualification or re-qualification of Tier Status at the end of every 12 month qualification / re-qualification period at which time any existing benefits will be expired and be replaced with any benefits, where applicable, of your new membership status.
If you breach any of these Terms, we reserve the right to suspend your Tier Status for a period of time that we consider reasonable without any compensation to you.
This section does not apply to members who earn Nominated Silver or Nominated Gold Tier Status.
19.1. Elite Partners
Airpoints Members with Elite Tier Status may nominate one other Airpoints Member to be their "Elite Partner" each Membership Year.
A list of the current Elite Partner privileges can be found on the Airpoints section of our website.
19.2. Lounge Access for Airpoints Members with Elite, Gold or Silver Tier Status
Airpoints Members with Elite, Gold, Nominated Gold Silver, or Nominated Silver Tier Status may enjoy certain Lounge access privileges which may vary from time to time. Visit our website for a list of the current Lounge access privileges.
When accessing any Lounge, you must fully comply with the relevant Lounge Access Terms of Use and Koru Terms and Conditions, including the Minimum Access Requirements.
Lounge eVouchers issued to Silver and Nominated Silver Tier Status Members may only be used at Air NZ operated and branded Lounges. If not used, they will expire if the Silver or Nominated Silver Member qualifies for a higher Tier Status or fails to re-qualify for Silver or Nominated Silver Tier Status, as the case may be. Lounge eVouchers may only be used by the Silver and Nominated Silver Airpoints Member and their Guest. The Lounge eVouchers cannot be transferred to any other person and cannot be exchanged or redeemed for Cash.
From time to time, Lounge eVouchers may be issued to Nominated Earners of certain eligible Direct Earn Financial Products in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Direct Earn Financial Product. Any such Lounge eVouchers may only be used at Air NZ operated and branded Lounges and may only be used by the Nominated Earner and one guest. These eVouchers cannot be transferred to any other person, and cannot be exchanged or redeemed for Cash.
20. Shairpoints
As an Airpoints Member, you may join a Shairpoints Account to combine your Airpoints Dollars with the Airpoints Dollars of up to ten Airpoints Members.
If you join a Shairpoints Account, your Airpoints Dollars may be used to redeem Rewards by the Owner or other Spenders of the Shairpoints Account without any notice to you.
Shairpoints Accounts are subject to the following membership requirements:
- An Airpoints Member may create a Shairpoints Account by signing into their registered online Air NZ Account.
- A person who creates a Shairpoints Account is the "Owner".
- An Owner may invite other Airpoints Members to join their Shairpoints Account.
- The maximum number of members in a Shairpoints Account at any one time is ten members including the Owner.
- The Owner and all Members of a Shairpoints Account must be New Zealand residents.
- No more than ten new members may join a Shairpoints account in any 12 month period, commencing from the date the Shairpoints Account was first created.
- An Airpoints Member may not be a member of more than one Shairpoints Account at any one time.
- It is not possible to be the Owner of one Shairpoints Account and the member of another Owner's Shairpoints Account.
An Owner may nominate one or more of the members of their Shairpoints Account to be "Spenders". The remaining members of the Shairpoints Account will be "Non-Spenders".
The Owner may change the status of any member of their Shairpoints Account from Spender to Non-Spender and vice versa at any time.
The Owner and the Spenders may use all Airpoints Dollars in the Shairpoints Account to redeem Rewards. The Non-Spenders cannot use the Airpoints Dollars in the Shairpoints Account to redeem Rewards, except that they may redeem the Airpoints Dollars they have earned themselves, if not already redeemed by the Owner or Spenders.
An Airpoints Member's Airpoints Advance is not included in the Airpoints Dollars in the Shairpoints Account and therefore cannot be redeemed by other Spenders.
If an invitee accepts an invitation to join an Owner's Shairpoints Account:
- all of that Member's Airpoints Dollars accrued to that Member's Account prior to the date of joining the Shairpoints Account; and
- all Airpoints Dollars earned by that Member while that Member is part of the Shairpoints Account
will be combined with the Airpoints Dollars of the Owner and the other members of the Shairpoints Account to make up the total of the Shairpoints Account Balance.
All combined Airpoints Dollars in a Shairpoints Account Balance may be redeemed by the Owner and or the Spenders in their absolute discretion.
Air NZ is not responsible for resolving any disputes that may arise between members of a Shairpoints Account. Air NZ has no liability for any activity in relation to your Airpoints Balance and your Account if it is conducted by a member of your Shairpoints Account. Air NZ has no obligation to make any enquiries about activities in your Account if the activities are conducted by another Member or the Owner of your Shairpoints Account.
The Airpoints Dollars in the Shairpoints Account that are the oldest will be redeemed first, irrespective of whether any of the Shairpoints Account members are eligible for non-expiry of Airpoints Dollars. If one or more Shairpoints Account members have Airpoints Dollars in their Accounts with the same age and some of those Airpoints Dollars are being redeemed, Airpoints Dollars will be deducted evenly from the applicable Shairpoints Account members' Accounts. Airpoints Dollars available through an Airpoints Advance will only be available to the member who holds the Airpoints Advance.
20.1. Leaving or closing a Shairpoints Account
A Shairpoints Account member may elect to leave a Shairpoints Account at any time.
The Owner may remove a Shairpoints Account Member from their Shairpoints Account at any time.
If you leave or are removed from a Shairpoints Account: (a) all Airpoints Dollars in your Account at the date of exiting Shairpoints will be deducted from the Shairpoints Account Balance; (b) you may continue to redeem your own Airpoints Dollars; and (c) you remain liable to repay any Airpoints Dollars withdrawn from your Airpoints Advance including the Airpoints Dollars withdrawn by other Shairpoints Account members prior to you leaving the Shairpoints Account.
Following notification that an Owner of a Shairpoints Account has died, we will close the Shairpoints Account.
An Owner may close their Shairpoints Account at any time. Following closure, we will notify the other members of the Shairpoints Account that the Account has been closed.
When a Shairpoints Account is closed: (a) each Airpoints Member may continue to redeem their own Airpoints Dollars that are credited to their own Airpoints Account; and (b) each Airpoints Member remains liable to repay any Airpoints Dollars withdrawn from that Member's Airpoints Advance even if such Airpoints Advance was withdrawn prior to closure of the Shairpoints Account.
We may suspend your Shairpoints Account if we reasonably believe that the Shairpoints Account has been used in breach of the Terms or if we reasonably suspect that there has been any actual or attempted fraudulent activity in respect of the Shairpoints Account.
21. Fees associated with your Airpoints Membership
We may charge you a reasonable fee for the services you ask us to provide. For example, we may charge you a service fee if you ask us to: replace your Airpoints Card, add a non-Airpoints Member Giftee to your Gifting Register, or send you an Airpoints Membership statement in the post. We may change the fees associated with the Airpoints Programme from time to time, acting reasonably. We will always inform you of the relevant fee before carrying out the relevant service.
22. OneSmart
Provided you are an Airpoints member, reside in New Zealand, are aged sixteen years and over and Air New Zealand has your current address:
- If you are an Elite, Gold or Silver Airpoints member, an Airpoints Card that has OneSmart features including a OneSmart Account may be sent to you by Air New Zealand; or
- If you have opened your OneSmart Account and your Airpoints tier is downgraded at any state below Silver Airpoints membership, you may be issued with an Airpoints card with OneSmart features
- If you are not an Elite, Gold or Silver Airpoints member, you may be issued with an Airpoints card without OneSmart features. If you wish to receive an Airpoints card with OneSmart features, you may request one; please refer to airnewzealand.co.nz/onesmart for details
Only the person named on an Airpoints Card is authorised to use the OneSmart Account associated with the Airpoints Card.
Your activation and use of the OneSmart Account associated with your Airpoints Card is subject to the OneSmart terms and conditions.
Following activation of your OneSmart Account, you may earn Airpoints Dollars on Eligible Purchases made using your OneSmart Account at an earning rate that we will determine and update from time to time, acting reasonably. Any flights purchased directly from Air New Zealand using your OneSmart Account will not earn Airpoints Dollars on your OneSmart.
Once activated, your OneSmart Account can be used until it is either closed in accordance with the OneSmart Account Terms and Conditions, or your Airpoints Membership is terminated, whichever happens first.
OneSmart Account fees will apply to certain transactions and services carried out in relation to your OneSmart Account. These fees can be viewed at https://www.airnzonesmart.co.nz/#fees and are subject to change from time to time.
To the extent of any inconsistency between this paragraph and any other term in these Terms expressly dealing with the OneSmart Account, the OneSmart Account Terms and Conditions shall prevail.

Purchases that are reversed, refunded or charged-back are also ineligible for points earn, in addition to fees incurred.
23. Airpoints Dollars top-up
If you have an Air New Zealand Airpoints credit card with available credit, you may purchase Airpoints Dollars to 'top up' the Airpoints Dollars in your Account or another Airpoints Member's Account. This is subject to an applicable fee and will be processed at the rate published on our website. Once purchased, this transaction cannot be reversed and is non-refundable.
24. Direct Earn Financial Products
If you are the Nominated Earner of a Direct Earn Financial Product, you may earn Airpoints Dollars and/or Status Points in accordance with the terms and conditions of your Direct Earn Financial Product and these Terms. You may also be eligible for certain other Airpoints Member Benefits.
If you make purchases with your Direct Earn Financial Product, the purchases must be 'Eligible Purchases' to earn Airpoints Dollars and/or Status Points.
Except in respect of any Airpoints Member Benefits provided by Air NZ, to the extent that there is any inconsistency between these Terms and the terms and conditions applicable to your Direct Earn Financial Product, the terms applicable to your Direct Earn Financial Product shall prevail.
If you hold more than one Direct Earn Financial Product, the Airpoints Member Benefits you may be entitled to as a holder of these cards (including any bonus Status Points to be earned) are not cumulative. However, Lounge passes entitlements are cumulative.
If your Direct Earn Financial Product is closed by your card issuer for non-payment of your Direct Earn Financial Product account, we may remove any Airpoints Dollars and Status Points from your Airpoints Account that were accrued in respect of the unpaid portion of your Direct Earn Financial Product.
If the Nominated Earner of a Direct Earn Financial Product joint account dies, 100% of the Airpoints Dollars accrued from that person's joint account (but not any Airpoints Dollars earned by any other means), that have not yet been redeemed, may be transferred from the Nominated Earner's Airpoints Account to the other joint account holder's Airpoints Account, if:
- the relevant bank has provided verification to us of the Member's death and type of bank account; and/or
- If we receive a written request by the executor of the deceased Airpoints Member's estate to transfer the current Airpoints Dollars from the deceased Airpoints Member's Account (being the Nominated Earner's Account) to the Airpoints Account of the other joint account holder, we will do so if we are satisfied that the request is valid and lawful and if that the request is made within 2 years of the death of the Airpoints Member.
In the case of either separation or divorce, 50% of the Airpoints Dollars earned from a joint Direct Earn Financial Product joint account, and which have not yet been redeemed, may be transferred from one joint account holder's Airpoints Account to the other joint account holder's Airpoints Account - as long as both Airpoints Members provide Air NZ with their written authorisation for this transaction.
24.1. Airpoints Dollars Advance
An Airpoints Dollars Advance facility is available to eligible cardholders who are the Nominated Earners of certain Direct Earn Financial Products and may also be available, from time to time, to eligible account holders of select Participating Retailer accounts. Please check with the bank that has issued your Direct Earn Financial Product to confirm if you satisfy their "Nominated Earner" and other eligibility requirements for use of the Airpoints Dollars Advance facility.
The Airpoints Dollars Advance facility enables Nominated Earners of eligible Direct Earn Financial Products and account holders of select Participating Retailer accounts to overdraw Airpoints Dollars in their Airpoints Dollars Account, up to a specified limit, to enable them to redeem Rewards.
We reserve the right to amend or withdraw the Airpoints Dollars Advance facility at any stage.
Where a Member holds more than one Direct Earn Financial Product which entitles them to obtain an Airpoints Dollars Advance, the Member will only be entitled to an Airpoints Dollars Advance for the Direct Earn Financial Product which has the highest Airpoints Dollars Advance limit, and the Member will not be entitled to an Airpoints Dollars Advance entitlement for any of their other Direct Earn Financial Products.
The Member has 12 months from the date they cease to be the Nominated Earner of a Direct Earn Financial Product account; or the date that they cease to be the account holder of a select Participating Retailer account; or the date on which the Airpoints Dollars Advance is withdrawn (as applicable), to earn sufficient Airpoints Dollars to repay any outstanding Airpoints Dollars Advance. If the Member does not hold another Direct Earn Financial Product or select Participating Retailer account that entitles that Member to an Airpoints Dollars Advance, then the Member must repay the outstanding Airpoints Dollars Advance in its entirety. If the Member is entitled to Airpoints Dollars Advance under another Direct Earn Financial Product or select Participating Retailer account, the Member is only required to repay the difference between the amount withdrawn against that higher Airpoints Dollars Advance and the new Airpoints Dollars Advance limit ("Airpoints Deficit"). Members shall repay the Airpoints Deficit by earning or purchasing Airpoints Dollars in accordance with these Terms.
If the Member does not earn sufficient Airpoints Dollars to reverse the Airpoints Deficit, or otherwise repay the Airpoints Dollars deficit, within 12 months we may choose to close that Member's account. Air New Zealand may seek recovery of the Airpoints Deficit which may include sending the debt to a collection agency for recovery of any Airpoints Dollars deficit.
The Member will be liable for any resulting costs pursuant to these Terms in relation to the recovery of the monetary value of any Airpoints Dollars owed.
24.2. Non Expiry of Airpoints Dollars for Nominated Earners of Direct Earn Financial Products
Notwithstanding the Airpoints Dollars expiry provisions in paragraph 14, Airpoints Dollars earned by Nominated Earners of certain Direct Earn Financial Products will not expire for so long as the person remains the Nominated Earner for the applicable Direct Earn Financial Product account.
As soon as the Airpoints Member is no longer the Nominated Earner for a Direct Earn Financial Product account, all of their unused Airpoints Dollars that were earned four or more years ago and would have otherwise expired under paragraph 14 will immediately expire and be removed from their Account.
25. Credit and charge card rewards
Certain credit or charge cards permit card holders to convert their credit or charge card reward points into Airpoints Dollars, in accordance with the relevant credit or charge card terms and conditions. Where such cards permit conversion of rewards points into Airpoints Dollars, the terms and conditions of the relevant card issuer and the terms and conditions of the credit or charge card, apply to the conversion. Conversion of reward points into Airpoints Dollars is only available in some countries. Please contact your credit card issuer for full details including details on membership eligibility and transfer fees. Once credit or charge card reward points are converted into Airpoints Dollars, the transaction cannot be reversed (unless the reversal is to correct an error or to remove Airpoints Dollars for purchases that have been refunded).
When you convert credit or charge card reward points into Airpoints Dollars, your Airpoints Dollars should appear on the "My Balance" page of your online Air NZ Account within three months of the conversion being requested. If you wish to make a claim for missing Airpoints Dollars converted from credit or charge card reward points, submit your claim to the card issuer within 6 months of the date you converted the missing Airpoints Dollars, or such sooner time as is required by your credit or charge card terms and conditions.

Whilst we will endeavour to provide valuable Airpoints Member Benefits to Airpoints Members, we will need to review, update and change the types of Airpoints Member Benefits available from time to time. Changes to Airpoints Member Benefits may reflect, for example, changes in our business relationships with different Airpoints Partners and changes in the supply or customer demand for certain Rewards.
Our Airpoints Partners may also change from time to time. Airpoints Partners may discontinue their participation in the Airpoints Programme and their provision of Rewards at any time without notice.
29. Termination
You may terminate your Airpoints Membership at any time by providing notice in writing to Air NZ.
If an Airpoints Membership is terminated by either the Airpoints Member or by us (other than due to death of the Airpoints Member), any Airpoints Dollars and Status Points Dollars the Airpoints Member has earned but not redeemed prior to termination will be forfeited with no compensation.
Airpoints Membership will automatically terminate on the death or bankruptcy of an Airpoints Member in accordance with paragraph 6.
Your Airpoints Account may not have a negative Airpoints Dollars balance but if it does, it may be closed without notice.
